“I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book” – JK Rowling
February is I Love to Read Month, and we thought we would join in on the fun by sharing some of Dr. Munn’s favourite books. Dr. Munn always has a book, or two, on the go and won’t travel far without a book in her hand. She is certainly what you’d call a bookworm.
Here is a look at some of her favourites and why they top her list. Maybe you’ll find a new book to add to your very own book list.
1. Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay
This is a book I will always come back to and always recommend. It’s a beautiful and haunting story that had me captivated from the start, with just the right amount of suspense and mystery. But be sure to have some kleenex nearby, it definitely had me shedding some tears.
2. Along Came a Spider by James Patterson
Whenever I’m in need of an easy read to take with me on vacations or out to the cabin for the weekend, I can always count on James Patterson. While he has a big selection to choose from, I always stick to the Alex Cross series. Crime, mystery, and thriller all rolled into one, they’re always hard to put down once I’ve started. And thankfully, with over 20 books and counting featuring Detective Alex Cross, my beach bag is always well stocked.
3. The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work by Shawn Achor
I can’t say enough great things about this relatively easy read. It’s extremely relevant for everyday life, not just work as its title says. Nearly two years since I first read it, I still find myself using the practices found inside, and I feel my life is better for it.
4. Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling
What book list would be complete without a mention of everyone’s favourite wizard?
5. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr. and John Archambault
I couldn’t help but put one of my absolute favourite children’s books into this list. I adored this book as a kid, and still smile when I see it at a bookstore. I’ll meet you at the top of the coconut tree!
What book are you reading right now? Dr. Munn has her own book list and is always looking for a new read.
